AI Question Bank Check

Let the AI check up to 20 questions for ambiguous wording, a doubtful answer key, a give-away option or the wrong difficulty; you decide each flag.

What it does, and for whom

A question with a wrong key marks every pupil wrong; one whose right option is the longest is answered by guessing. The AI bank check reads up to 20 questions of one subject, with their stored answers, and flags four kinds of problem: Ambiguous (more than one fair reading, or more than one option that could be marked right), Doubtful key (the stored answer looks wrong or is missing), Give-away option (an option points to itself by its length or wording) and Difficulty does not match. Tocademy adds a fifth itself, Duplicate, by comparing the wording with the rest of the subject's bank; the AI never decides what is a duplicate. Nothing in the bank is changed by the check.

Before you start

Your school has switched on Question bank check, you hold credits that cover it, and you may edit the question bank. Open Exams in the sidebar and click Question Bank, choose the subject and, to check what is waiting for review, choose Pending Review under Status. Tick the questions to check, up to 20 of one subject. The box AI review of the ticked questions appears with the button and its price.

The AI review of the ticked questions box for six questions of one subject, with its Suggest topics with AI (38 credits) and Check with AI (86 credits) buttons.

Worked example: six Basic Science questions

Mr Emeka Okafor ticks the six JSS 2 Basic Science & Technology questions waiting for review and presses "Check with AI", 86 credits at Greenfield. The check finds three problems. The plank question asks for 120 minus 45 but its stored key is 65 cm. The light question has the same option, The sun, twice. And the heart question's right option is a whole sentence while the others are two words, so it gives itself away. The other three questions have no flag.

The AI bank check of six Basic Science & Technology questions with three flags: Doubtful key on the plank question, Ambiguous on the light question and Give-away option on the heart question, each with its reason and its Open in the bank link, Will fix and Dismiss buttons.

On a phone

On a phone each flag is a card: the question, the kind of problem, the reason, and the same link and buttons.

On a phone: the plank question's flag, Doubtful key, The stored key gives 65, but the answer is 75. Check the key., with Open in the bank, Will fix and Dismiss.

Act on each flag, or dismiss it

Follow the "Open in the bank" link to find the question in the bank and fix it there yourself, with the bank's own Edit, then press "Will fix". If the flag is wrong, press "Dismiss". "Undo" changes your mind. Mr Okafor marks the wrong key and the give-away option to fix, and dismisses the repeated option because he will rewrite that question himself.

The bank check with every flag decided: Will fix on the doubtful key and the give-away option, Dismissed on the repeated option, and the Record decisions button now ready.

Record your decisions

When every flag is decided, press "Record decisions". The check is kept as the record of what was found and what you decided, and it closes. It changes no question: the fixes are the edits you make in the bank. "Discard" closes a check without recording it.

The Question Bank after Record decisions: Decisions recorded. Fix each question you marked in the bank itself, above the six questions still Pending Review.

What is sent to the AI, and what never is

Only the subject's name and, for each question, its type, its difficulty, its text cut to 300 characters, the parts of a structured question, every option and its stored answer. No id and nothing about pupils or staff is sent; a question asked about a passage is marked so, without the passage. The questions are checked before they leave, and one with a pupil's name or a phone number in it is refused with "Remove the personal details and try again. They are never sent to an AI provider." and nothing is charged. Duplicates are found on our own server and are never sent.

Cost, and My AI credits

Each check costs the credits on the button, however many flags it finds (the AI gives at most 15, the most serious first); a refused or unfinished request is never charged, and an answer that is not a list of flags on the questions sent is refused and not charged. A refusal always says why and ends "Nothing was charged.", for example "Your school has not switched this AI feature on." My AI credits, under My Profile, lists every check with its cost.
